Grand Challenge – PD Watch
Wearable for assessing tremors and continuous health in Parkinson’s Disease
The Challenge
Parkinson’s affects more than 13,000 people in Scotland. Tremors, gait changes and other symptoms often go unmonitored, especially between clinic visits. With limited access to specialists and infrequent assessments, many people are left managing fluctuating symptoms on their own, leading to reduced confidence, missed changes in condition and a lower quality of life.
Our Solution
- A lightweight (5g), flexible wearable patch continuously tracks tremors and gait in real time.
- It enables earlier detection of changes, supports treatment optimisation, and has demonstrated 98% accuracy for tremor monitoring with less than 10% error in gait assessment.
Patient & Public Involvement & Engagement (PPIE)
PD Watch are engaging people with Parkinson’s, NHS clinicians, researchers, and digital health partners to shape the development of PD Watch. Feedback is gathered through focus groups, home‑based trials, and user surveys, supported by ongoing collaboration with Parkinson’s UK to ensure the technology reflects real needs and lived experiences.
